JC Penney Receives a Google Penalty

The New York Times took an inside look at JC Penney and found that they were engaging in less than ethical SEO tactics. Specifically, they were purchasing thousands of low quality links in an effort to rank higher for very general and competitive terms. Did it work? Yes, for a while – and over the holidays, arguably the most important time of the year. However, once Matt Cutts from Google got wind of it – Google demoted their site by a ‘manual’ penalty. Former #1 organic rankings on Google are now showing up around #71.

The moral of the story- buying links is bad. It works, but only for a short time. And then you pay the price.

Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics showing signs of togetherness

Welcome news for those of us who pour over stats all day long. Google Webmaster Tools, which has become a more important tool over the years for all webmasters, is now allowing the ability to link an account to Analytics. Vanessa Fox lays out the details here, from an original post by Istavan Turk. Google has also just added some comments here.

Both of these tools are indespensable in their own right for any SEO, but having them talk to each other finally is a great development.

Bing stealing from Google?

Google has been suspecting for a while now that Bing is ‘copying’ their results to a certain degree. One Google engineer wouldn’t go so far as to call it stealing – but he likened it to running a marathon being carried on someones back the whole way and then jumping off at the finish line.

So Google sets up a sting operation  – by hardcoding search results for certain gobbley-goo phrases (which they’ve never done before) to see if similar results showed up in Bing. A few weeks later – they did!

Pottery House- Frank Lloyd Wright home in Santa Fe For Sale

In a sign of what surely is the times of how the real estate business is changing, Trafficdeveloper has been hired to market a home for sale in Santa Fe designed by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright himself.

The Pottery House is an amazing home, set on a 9 acre hilltop parcel with probably the best views in Santa Fe. It is the only one of many Frank Lloyd Wright homes built in adobe. Originally built as a spec home in 1986, this property is now on the market for the first time ever. The family has listed the sale price at $6 million.

So why not hire a real estate broker or agent? Maybe, the old model of taking a sales commission on the sale of a property is going away. Maybe, it’s more effective to market the home yourself, online, or hire an SEO Expert to do the work for you. Whichever route you decide, hiring an SEO who is qualified in marketing real estate is almost certainly going to be cheaper than paying a typical realtors commission fee.

We’re excited about the challenge of rounding up a buyer for this very unique Frank Lloyd Wright home for sale. Surely, there is someone out there who loves Santa Fe, admires the work of this reknown architect, and wants to live in a home that is also a work of art?

Trafficdeveloper will find that special someone, and lead them straight to the seller.

We’ll keep you posted on how things go, meanwhile visit their website to get a better sense of a home that has been featured in Architectural Digest, among other places.
