Is Yahoo Turning a Corner with it’s new CEO?

We remember the days when we had at least a dozen Search Engines to target. Altavista, Looksmart, AOL, Yahoo, and many more. These days it all boils down to Google, and a little bit of Bing and Yahoo mixed in.

Yahoo has just appointed a new CEO – former Paypal President Scott Thompson. During his tenure at Paypal, he doubled the user base from 50 million users to 104 million users.

Yahoo is in an interesting position – they’ve been through some very rocky and turbulent times over the past few years, attempting to define their way forward in the face of competitors on the search and social media sides. They have some incredible assets still, and we’re rooting for them to find their path. Of course search on Yahoo is powered by Bing, so there are really only 2 players left, but we’d love to see Yahoo make it’s way somehow.

Another company we’ve had our eye on this year is Duck Duck Go. A clean interface (fewer ads!), reasonably good results (no spam!) and a DIY ethic to it we really like. If you’re looking for a new search engine – this is it!
